A UL logo is not the end of the check: match the file, holder, category and model.

The short answer

Use the UL file number or unique identifier as a search key in UL Product iQ, then confirm the certification holder, product category, model designation and geographic mark. Finding a real file is only the first step: the question is whether the supplier and exact quoted model are connected to that record.

  • 01

Search the official UL database, not only a certificate PDF supplied by the seller.

  • 02

Compare the exact model, electrical rating and product category—not just the company name.

  • 03

Ask for written evidence when the seller, brand owner, factory and UL file holder are different entities.

01

What Product iQ is designed to search

UL describes Product iQ as its source for certification information. Searches can use a file number, company name, model, Category Control Number and other identifiers. A unique identifier on an enhanced or smart UL Mark can also be entered to obtain more information.

This makes a file number useful because it can be checked independently of a supplier-created PDF. Preserve the file number exactly and save the search date and result.

02

Four relationships must line up

First, check the file holder. Second, confirm the product category is appropriate for the claimed item. Third, locate the exact model or a documented model series. Fourth, check the mark and geography stated in the record.

A difference is not automatically a counterfeit. A trading company may sell a product certified under its manufacturing partner, and an OEM product may be covered through a legitimate arrangement. The difference still needs a traceable explanation before the buyer relies on it.

  • File holder versus supplier legal entity
  • Product category and applicable guide information
  • Quoted model versus listed model or series
  • Electrical ratings and construction variants
  • Mark type and country coverage
03

Why model scope matters for chargers

Charger families can share an enclosure while differing in wattage, ports, plug type, PCB layout or key safety components. A photo of a UL Mark or a valid file for one member of the family does not establish coverage for every variant.

If the model is not visible in the available record, ask for a certification letter, model correlation or other holder-controlled document rather than assuming the marketing name is covered.
